Zirconia alumina grains break down frequently to create fresh, sharp edges to cut and finish faster than aluminum oxide. It cuts cooler than aluminum oxide and is often used for high stock removal or under high pressure. Closed-coat abrasives have abrasive grain across the entire surface to provide a smoother finish and faster material removal than open-coat coverage. Example metals include mild and carbon steel, cast iron, cobalt, titanium, and chrome.
